Mission

The purpose of the Archives and Special Collections Round Table of the SCLA is to promote the work and development of Archives and Special Collections in South Carolina; to foster high standards in the preservation of archives, manuscripts, and special collections materials; to develop professional cooperation among those involved with archives and special collections in South Carolina; to encourage the use of archives and special collections in South Carolina; and to work for the objectives of the South Carolina Library Association.

2002 Conference Program Report

The Archives and Special Collections Round Table sponsored three activities at this year's SCLA conference: a pre-conference entitled "Disaster Preparedness and Recovery," a concurrent session entitled "Issues in Special Collections: Outreach Services," and a reception and tour of USC's Rare Books and Special Collections.

The "Disaster Preparedness and Recovery" pre-conference was cancelled due to low attendance. Representatives from the Columbia Fire Department, CHUBB Insurance, and the SC Emergency Management Division were to have presented practical advice on how to prepare and recover from disasters. The Round Table is considering offering this program at next year's conference.

For our concurrent session, "Issues in Special Collections: Outreach Services," Patrick Scott, Richard Moul, Kate Boyd, and Paul Willis gave participants advice on how to publicize their collections and reach out to their communities.

Finally, USC's Rare Books and Special Collections hosted a tour and reception at the Thomas Cooper Library. Patrick Scott gave a talk about the highlights of the collection.
2003 Budget Information

Before the annual conference, the round table's budget stood at $528.23. The round table paid for one speaker's registration fees at the conference. The only other expense incurred for the conference was gift certificates for our speaker appreciation gifts.
