SCLA SCHOLARSHIP FOR DIVERSITY IN LIBRARIANSHIP COMMITTEE 2003 ANNUAL REPORT
October 24, 2003
Two new members, Steven C. Sims, of Francis Marion University, and Cathi Cooper-Mack of South Carolina State University, were appointed by President Gilson to serve on the committee. In addition, the committee welcomed Ellen Shuler who replaced Chrissy Booth who moved out of the state in September.
The committee met during the March 1st, 2003 SCLA Committee retreat at the Lutheran Seminary and discussed plans for the year. These included ensuring the proposed bylaws were presented for membership approval at the annual conference and ways to publicize the scholarship and the recipient. A profile of the recipient, Mrs. Pamela Doreen Williams, was published in the June issue of "News and Views".
Mrs. Pamela Doreen Williams of Columbia was again awarded the scholarship for the second year and presented at the first general session of the conference.
The agreement between the Association and the University was revised to reflect the intentions of the Association in awarding the scholarship to a person of an under-represented population. The revision was approved by the board at the October 24th meeting. In addition, the committee sponsored a 50/50 raffle as a mini scholarship fundraiser at the conference and netted $146 from this effort.
At the August 21st meeting, Chrissy Booth gave the following scholarship funding status report.
